When I turned twelve, I graduated to High School. Shortly after that, we moved to Rondebosch. That meant travelling by train to school; and, also, new friends in Rondebosch. On the train each day I studied chess books, and soon became the School Chess Champion.

At the same time in Rondebosch, I discovered how to make explosives. With my friends, we made pistols from old pipes, and even a canon mounted on a tricycle which my best friend confiscatedfromhiskid brother forthat purpose. Wethenset about asserting ourauthority over the other gangs in the neighbourhood. Looking back, it was only by the grace of God we didn't get arrested!
