By the latter, I meant Christianity. But after later becoming a Christian, I tore up My Creed. And after I yet later had the joy of leading my father to Christ — he too tore up his Rationalist’s Creed.

University and Conversion

My father wanted me to become a mathematician(!), but my mother a journalist. Simply becausethestudentquotaintheFaculty ofSciencewasthenfullat theUniversity ofCapeTown, I decided at the last minute to enrol there in the Faculty of Arts. We then moved from Rondebosch into our much larger house Sandlaagte in Muizenberg — where (as an avid Atheist) I quickly became adept at card-playing, caving, wrestling and long-distance running.
