'King Hezekiah…sent…the Elders…to Isaiah…. King [Josiah] sent, and they gathered to him all the Elders of Judah…. The king sent and gathered together all the Elders of Judah.'83 And in the days of Joel, God declared: 'Call a solemn Assembly; gather the Elders!… Gather the people, sanctify the Congregation, assemble the Elders!'84

At the very commencement of the Babylonian Captivity, the Prophet Ezekiel sat in his house, 'and the Elders of Judah sat before me…. Certain of the Elders of Israel came to me…. Certain of the Elders of Israel came to inquire of the Lord, and sat before me.'85
