Christians Overcome Papacy and Islam

The division of the Roman Empire into ten ‘toes’ (and/or the ten ‘horns’ of Daniel 7:7,20) – took place at various times between A.D. 351 and 476, and before the Bishop of Rome was first called “Pope” in A.D. 533 by the Roman State (cf. 7:8-20) and in A.D. 604-6 by the Church (cf. 7:24f).   Note further that the division here is not that between the Eastern and Western Roman Empires.   For the legs of the image are described as being together, and not separated. Nor are we told that the feet, but only that the toes of the image were divided.   So the fourth beast was initially and essentially Roman, and not Byzantine.
