"The Word of God is to be read in our families. This duty is absolutely necessary for the propagating of religion in them. It is indeed shamefully neglected…. The neglect of it is one great reason of the ignorance and decay of piety in the rising generation, and is also contrary to God's command (Deuteronomy 6:6f) as well as the example of those who are highly commended for this practice.
