Calvin Versus Idolatry

Indeed, as also the Westminster Larger Catechism adds:3662 "The Scriptures manifest that the Son and the Holy Ghost are God equal with the Father, ascribing unto them such names…and worship as are proper to God only….   First John 5:20[f] and John 1:1….

"The duties required in the Second Commandment are…the disapproving, detesting and opposing all false-worship and, according to each one’s place and calling, removing…all monuments of idolatry.   Acts 17:16-17; Deuteronomy 7:5; Isaiah 30:22….   The sins forbidden in the Second Commandment are all devising…, using, and any wise approving any religious worship not instituted by God Himself; tolerating…the making [of] any representation of God; of all or of any of the Three Persons either inwardly in our mind or outwardly in any kind of image or likeness (Deuteronomy 4:15-16 and Acts 17:29 and Romans 1:21-25)."                                                     3657) J.
